I might as well get my views on religion out in the open, I'm an Atheist, no apologies. Like the popular CIS shows on TV, I follow the evidence.
I grew up in Phoenix, in the 1950s and 1960s, I was sent, along with my younger sister to a small Baptist Church by my mother. The only time my mother attended services was on Easter. The only time I ever saw my father in a church was for weddings and funerals. There was no personal instructions from either of my parents as to religious indoctrination. This sort of left me on my own to make up my own mind. I was never comfortable with any of the church services, I couldn’t understand why adults were trying to teach me this stuff. Indirectly my dad did offer some direction, he told me not to believe in Ghosts, and gave me a book titled: ‘Mammals of the World’.
There were outside influences that effected my belief system, one was the launch of Sputnik in 1957. Another was a trip to the school library in fourth grade where I found a series of Nature Books by Walt Disney. This piked my interest in Science, Nature and reading.
It wasn’t until the 1970’s that I realized I was an Atheist, I haven’t seen any reason to change since. I still follow the evidence.
